Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The rest of the body’s circulator system uses the heart as a ‘pump; to move blood around the body, but lymphatic circulation relies upon body movement and breathing.

Impaired circulation leads to a buildup of toxins (metabolic waste) which in turn can lead to re-occurring illnesses (cold, flue etc.) and feelings of sluggishness due to a depressed immune system

Lymphatic drainage supports the natural circulation and movement of toxins and fluids through the lymph ducts.

This stimulation strengthens the immune system, clears blockages, transports nutrients to cells and helps the metabolism and overall health.

If you are suffering from {you will need a Doctor's prescription note to receive a lymphatic massage if you have any of the following):

  • major heart ailments
  • severe swelling
  • thrombosis
  • epilepsy
  • kidney problems
  • thyroid problems
  • diabetes
  • cancer

Please check with your physician prior to scheduling a treatment.  I am not a doctor & cannot prescribe/diagnose or ‘cure’.

What body conditions can warrant Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Certified therapists are often referred patients by medical doctors for treatment of acute and chronic lymphedema, neuromuscular disorders, post-mastectomy pain, fibrosis and other conditions. Sports injuries, sprains, strains, post plastic surgery, sinus and congestion problems, scar tissue reduction and stress are some of the other conditions that can benefit from lymphatic drainage massage. If you suffer from two or more your body needs lymph therapy.

  • Do you have tender breasts or breast lumps?
  • Do you suffer from fluid retention or oedema?
  • Do you suffer from lymphoedema?
  • Do you have post surgery swelling?
  • Do you feel tired, run down, sluggish or stressed?
  • Do you get lactic acid build up in your muscles after exercise?
  • Do you get recurrent colds and infections?
  • Do you suffer from irritable bowel or constipation?
  • Do you suffer from poor circulation?
  • Do you gain weight easily or find it hard to lose?
  • Do you have strong body odour?
  • Do you have cellulite?
  • Do you have fibromyalgia?

Your lymphatic system helps eliminate your body's waste. ... However, surgery or other damage can cause fluids to build up in your lymph system and your lymph nodes, a condition known as lymphedema. If you've ever had a surgery on or involving your lymph nodes, your doctor may have suggested lymphatic drainage massage.

Manual Lymph Drainage for the Lymphatic System

Manual lymph drainage is a massage technique that uses circular movements on the lymph nodes. The movements act as a type of external pump that pulls lymphatic fluid through the lymph channels and enhances the release of toxins. This type of massage is not the same as traditional massage as the movements are specifically designed to increase the flow of lymph. Manual lymph drainage is a gentle technique as too much pressure on the lymph nodes can cause thickening.

Light Beam Therapy and the Lymphatic System, as the name suggests, uses light beam generators in order to break up any blockages in the lymph. In this therapy, the practitioner focuses the device on the areas of the body where the lymph is blocked. The energy generated breaks up the clusters of lymph protein molecules, thus unclogging any lymph fluid that may have stagnated. Light beam therapy is often used in conjunction with lymph massage and it is very useful for lymphedema.

Dry Skin Brushing and the Lymphatic System

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it both absorbs and eliminates substances, from good substances such as vitamins and minerals to bad substances such as toxins. Dry skin brushing is actually based on acupuncture, which recognises that there are nerve points spread all over the skin that can be used therapeutically. Dry skin brushing applies friction to these points, thus invigorating the entire nervous system so that everything in the body benefits. Dry skin brushing helps to move the lymph fluid through the lymph vessels.

Herbal Wraps and the Lymphatic System

Body wraps that use essential oils made from herbs can help to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid. Herbs that stimulate stagnant lymph and help its circulation include rosemary, eucalyptus, sage, and juniper. Herbs that detoxify the lymph include Irish moss, aloe powder, buckthorn, ginger, bayberry, and seaweed.

Exercise and the Lymphatic System

Exercise is vital for a healthy lymphatic system. Regular exercise creates vigorous motion in the body, and this is necessary for stimulating waste disposal and the flow of lymphatic fluid.

(reasons lymph drainage CANNOT be done)

There are only 6 major reasons why lymphatic drainage should NOT be done.:

         (acute angina, recent heart attack)
5.    ACUTE ANURESIS (absence of urination)
6.    MALIGNANT AILMENTS (sarcoma, active cancer, leukemia)
